In September 1988, The Perth Mint released Australia's first Platinum Koala coin. This commemorative issue celebrates that first release and replicates the original 1988 coin's reverse design! This release carries a limited mintage of only 3,000 coins!


Coin Highlights:

  • Contains 1 oz of .9995 fine platinum.
  • Limited mintage of only 3,000 coins worldwide.
  • Individual coins come in protective plastic capsules. 
  • Obverse: The Jody Clark effigy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, her years of reign: 1952-2022 and the monetary denomination.
  • Reverse: Portrays a seated koala bear, leaning forward to explore. Also included in the inscription "THE AUSTRALIAN KOALA," the weight, .9995 fineness and the metal. The Perth Mint's "P35" mint mark is included in the design to signify the 35 years of The Perth Mint Koala coins. Also included in the reverse design is the year-date of 2023.
  • The coin’s reverse includes a security feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter within the design. It is only detectable under a magnifying glass.
  • Sovereign coin backed by the Australian government.
